Folk Art in the 50th State - Mike Brown
"Mike Brown is a tattoo artist who, if you know your history, always comes up when people talk about those who pioneered tattooing in the late 1970s. He worked at China Sea (formerly owned by Sailor Jerry), ground zero for traditional American tattoos, and at the birthplace for black grey penitentiary-style tattoos, Good Time Charlie’s Tattoo Land. His life has had some ups and downs over the years, and they’ve made him a little hard to track down if you’re looking to get a Mike Brown tattoo. But we had the chance to visit Honolulu in January and made sure to stop by the shop Mike works at to ask him about the old days. He still tattoos five days a week, and we’d wager that most people who see him have no idea about his pedigree. His portfolio alone is a history lesson in tattooing, with everything from the most beautiful Chola’s, Pin Ups, mean ass biker skulls, and touristy sea turtle tats. Mike Brown still does it all, and does so with the most humble manner."

"Three reasons to be happy: The Rapture announced a new album this week and a return to their old label DFA, and, as a semi-unrelated appetizer, the band’s multi-instrumentalist, Gabriel Andruzzi, released a great mix for the label. Andruzzi made the mix about a month ago, and though he’s a little hazy on what, exactly, he was thinking when he made it, he does know that it was inspired by the poet Kabir and 'it should be listened to loud, and I would hope the listener would have a predilection towards dancing, either with friends or while cleaning the house or brushing one’s teeth.' Riding The Long White Cloud Part 1
A few days ago John Rattray uploaded the 5 parts of the New Zealand bicycle/skate trip he did a few summers ago with fellow éS pro Rick McCrank, as well as Chris Haslam, Cairo Foster, Silas Baxter-Neal, Kenny Anderson and Keegan Sauder.
To quote John: "My idea was to use the trip as a speculative platform from which to investigate what life might be like in a post-industrial society. That is to say a society whose main fuel source has been depleted to the point of being scarce and expensive. Please let me know in the comments if this objective is not clear from the film."

The Daily Things is a project by Dutch illustrator the things we are. 6 days a week he makes a collage out of newspaper 'de Volkskrant', only using the pictures that are in the newspaper that day. This project started on the 15th of october 2010 and will end one year later. See more HERE.
